      Not only that, my first name is a bit rare for an African-American male to have, and my middle name even more so, such to the point in the case of my middle name, I have never personally known any other African-American to have it, nor are there any famous people/celebs who have it.

  • My name wasn't in the top ten when I was born, but my parents chose my name at the beginning of its upward trend.  I was named for my great-great-grandmother, who lived in Kronberg im Taunus, Germany.  She's also Livvie's great-great-grandmother.  We have her in common.

    Olivia, which is my actual name which I never use, was number 50 in the year I was born.  I don’t hate Olivia, I just like the nickname.  

    My husband’s name wasn’t actually much different in the rankings when he was born, number 53, but he hates his name.  He thought it was unpopular and he thought it was a name that only old people had.  He actually goes by his last name, which was number 287.  The fact that it was even less popular in the year he was born doesn’t seem to bother him.

    My older son‘s name is number 23 for the year he was born.  We gave our daughter a hyphenated name which doesn’t list, so the first part of her name was number 575.  My younger son’s name was number 168 for his birth year.  I hope none of them grow up to hate their names, but I won’t take it personally if they do.  Naming babies is kind of a crapshoot as to if they’ll like their names or not.

    My husband picked all three of our kids’ names.  He had a pretty unique system for choosing them.  He dreamed them up at night.  Both of us remember most of our dreams, but he keeps a journal, so when he finally had a dream about our kids’ names, he wrote them down as soon as he woke up and that’s what we named them.  With both of my pregnancies, he dreamed up their names exactly 14 days before they were born.  If our kids ever ask how we chose their names, we’ll tell them that story.

    My own parents tried to pick names that they thought would be good, wouldn’t be considered out of style, and they tried to avoid fad names.

    The thing I’ve definitely noticed about my own name is that both Olivia and my married last name are both names of cities in Minnesota, lol.  My mom was even born in the city in Minnesota that has my married last name.
